The Music staff has complied a list of 15 songs best fit for hyping up your very own bobcat football team this season. This playlist will get your heart pumping and will prepare your lungs for cheering for your team. With songs from 80’s classic, Duran Duran, the groovy Alabama Shakes, and Rae Sremmurd there’s bound to be a track that will have you hollering along with your friends dressed in Maroon and Gold.

  1. “Get Up Get Down” by Mick Jenkins: “This is a really fun and upbeat song that is out of the norm for Mick. His strong, harsh rapping voice mixed with a light and playful beat is good for getting you warmed up and moving around while you partake in pre-game/tailgate festivities.” – Taryn Peters
  2. “Unlock the Swag” by Rae Sremmurd: “This song just gets me so hyped, that’s how I wanna feel before a game!” – Alexx Ward, Rap Music Director
  3. “On the Regular” by Shamir: “It just sounds like we win “On the Regular” and we are just being really confident and sassy about it. We are showing we are the best and everyone else is mediocre in comparison. Basically, being the biggest sore winner out there.” – Brittany Robinson
  4. “Run the Jewels” by Run the Jewels: “The dirty bass line combined with the unbelievable back and forth flow of Killer Mike and El-P make for a track that will get anybody pumped. Turn this up and watch people around you start bobbing their heads.” – Troy Burke
  5. “Crown on the Ground” by Sleigh Bells: “This song is LOUD and in your face. It embodies confrontation, which is what you expect to find at any good sporting event. This song to me screams, “bring it on!”” – Cheyenne Heaslet, On-Air Music reviewer
  6. “Summertime Clothes” by Animal Collective: “Those opening synths and the general ecstatic feeling of the track really gets me pumped to get up and go, to do something with movement. And it’s a jam of a lifetime” – Tre Simmons
  7. “Sixpack” by Jeff The Brotherhood: “There is something very sentimental and uniquely American about throwing a football and holding a beer in the other hand while dodging parked cars and tents. Do you ever see soccer fans in Europe or South America grilling meat and drinking beer in a parking lot before a game? (The answer is no.) Music should always be about context, and hard rockin’ air guitar solos are the perfect way to get hyped before a game.” – Wes Boland, Other Side Drive Host, On-Air Music Reviewer
  8. “Seventy Times 7” by Brand New: “This song pumps me up!” – Mathew Zuniga, Local On-Air Music Reviewer
  9. Party Girl” by Fight Fair: “After kicking butt at school all week, this is a great song to get you pumped for some tailgating and any other weekend shenanigans. With its upbeat tempo, it’s guaranteed to get you and your friends ready to party and ready for some football.” – Emily Coon
  10. “The Greatest” by Alabama Shakes: “We all want to be the greatest, but we know things won’t always go our way, so instead of being a sore loser we should Alabama-shake our butts and have a good time anyway.” – Kendra Sells
  11. Hungry Like The Wolf” by Duran Duran: ” It’s upbeat, it’s an American Classic, and it’s a song most everyone will know and appreciate.” – Allison Belcher
  12. “I Will Dare” by The Replacements: “Why I chose this song: Are you tailgating with your parents and your dad used to be a punk in the 80s? Are you looking for a fun, groovy song to jam while grilling some dogs? Is there a qt 3.14 at the game you want to impress? This song fulfills all your needs.” – Brie East
  13. “Ball And Biscuit” by The White Stripes: “No tailgate or BBQ sesh can go without this classic of a song. It’s a classic jam that’ll get you ready for a good night of some college football, grilling with the buds, and losing your voice in the stands. If Jack White’s cynical guitar solo doesn’t pump you up, then you’re just a wet towel.” – Nestor Vasquez, Local Music Director
  14. “We Bros” by Wu Lyf: “For me this song represents a cinematic sense of brotherhood that is very elevated and goes hand in hand with sports and, in effect, tailgating. There’s something really powerful about their emphatic shouts and sustained church organ progressions that stimulates the warm belly-feeling that only a true Texas State Tailgate can provide. The brotherhood that is clearly present in Wu Lyf’s familial anthem is well represented at any Bobcat gathering. I hope this song touches the hearts and bellies of all Texas State tailgaters wherever they are.” – Tafari Robertson, Assistant Music Director
  15. “T-Shirt Weather” – Circa Waves: “I know it’s not the most unknown, indie song ever, but it’s upbeat and has a summer-y feel! I think it’s fitting for that type of event.” – Brooke Adams
