The Bobcat Bond program is a way that new students and transfer students can transition to the university with more ease. By signing up for Bobcat Bond, new students will be paired with a student or faculty member as a mentor to help them with any academic or social pressure. The Assistant Director for Retention at Texas State, Terrence Parker, explained the importance of this program.
“The key is to have one person to talk to. If a student doesn’t feel connected to this university, we lose them. Just to have someone to talk to and it may not always be academic. A mentor can be a good resource, something a student wouldn’t think of unless they were guided to those resources. Each semester we have an orientation for new mentors and mentees. In fact we have one next Wednesday. We have different social engagement opportunities.”
