Traffic on Aquarena Springs in San Marcos has been especially bad lately due to the construction on Sessom Drive. That traffic will likely get much worse around this time a year from now as construction for the Loop 82 Overpass Project is set to begin in the fall of next year for an estimated price of 39 million dollars.
The completed overpass will let drivers avoid the average of 47 trains a day that have been giving Texas State students and residents of the city headaches for years.
But, Associate Vice President of Facilities Juan Guerra says that until then, construction could close off the public golf course, the main entrance to Bobcat Village apartments, some intramural fields, a row of parking at Bobcat Stadium, sidewalks and some tram routes.
While the overpass will surely be a blessing to the city as soon as it’s completed, some residents are not thrilled with the inconvenience of another construction project.
Texas State junior and Bobcat Village resident Scott Guzman says that he found out about the construction only days after renewing his lease at the apartment complex and likely would have gone somewhere else had he known about the overpass sooner.
The overpass is not expected to be completed until the spring of 2015
