Even though the event is taking place in Austin, several San Marcos businesses are preparing for an increase in business as over three hundred thousand F1 fans are flocking to central Texas for this weekend’s race. Nephews General Manager, Veronica Merced, says the night club will have extra staff on hand to counter the tourism increase in downtown San Marcos this weekend.
“Yeah, it is expected to bring in more people than South By and especially to San Marcos, although the race is in Austin, we’re actually expecting to have a lot more people in town than usual and since they’re staying in our hotels we actually think they’re going to want to stay out and enjoy the night life in San Marcos rather than going to Sixth Street.”

This is the first Formula One race to be held in the U.S. in over five years and is projected to bring in over $200,000 for the state of Texas.
