This first became a topic of discussion when an electric car was being charged in the Alkek garage and committee members were not sure if this car should be able to charge. Transportation Services Director, Joe Richmond, says they are looking into building charging stations on campus. He also says they didn’t want to send the wrong message by not letting the car charge and wanted to move forward in the sustainability movement.
“We’re going to check with our legal department to make sure it’s OK to leave it alone for a little while we move forward, but yeah there was a lot of support to move forward.”
- Joe Richmond
Richmond says he has looked at what other universities are doing and saw a lot of stations built, but not being used so he would like to build a smaller number to start. However, it will be about a year before any of them are installed.
