ASG passed two bills concerning Veterans at Texas State this week. The first bill is trying to get a separate orientation for Veterans when they come to Texas state to help them get the information they need and acclimate better. The second bill that ASG passed allows all Veterans including classified freshmen with a GPA of 2.5 or higher to register for classes early.
Travis Thompson is a senior as well as the Veterans liaison for ASG and helped get these bills passed.
“ We are in the top 15 [percent] schools in the nation for military friendly and I think that goes along with the initiative that we want to help our veterans, we want to help make it easier and easier for them to transition from being in the military to using those benefits and coming to college.”
- Travis Thompson
Both these bills were passed with an almost unanimous vote and will be run through President Trauth before being implemented. Thompson also said that the concerns of the Veteran students are just as important as the concerns of other students and that ASG will stay up until midnight reviewing and spending time on all bills recommended to them.
The ASG meetings are open to the public and are located in the LBJ ballroom Monday nights at 7 p.m.
