The San Marcos Municipal Airport is one of three airports contracted to perform helicopter transfers or “sorties” to and from the Formula One races scheduled next month in Austin. Assistant Fire Chief Len Nored says this requires assistance from not only the airport, but the San Marcos Fire Department as well.
“They’re gonna be doing hot-loads, which means they’ll be taking on fuel and such so we’ll have to have a truck on site for that, so that’s what we’re specifically gearing up for is we’re gonna have an apparatus out at the airport specifically for that event.”

This is the first time the Formula One Races have been held in Austin. Chief Nored says they are expecting around forty sorties during the weekend of the event.
